Academic Experiences in my Internship
My nursing education internship experiences were extensive under Dr. Joyce Burr and Dr. Krisann Draves at the University of Central Florida, Cocoa campus. This campus has face-to-face classes for the traditional BSN student and has online classes for the RN-to-BSN and the ADN-to-BSN student. I assisted Dr. Burr with face-to-face health assessment class and labs and Dr. Draves with face-to-face nursing essentials and labs for the junior students. I also assisted Dr. Burr with online research.
Experiences
· Prepared and taught three lectures to the juniors:power points are posted under samples.
· Prepared and taught one lecture to the seniors: cardiovascular assessment.
· Hand graded 48 students' math quizzes several times as they were allowed to take it up to three times.
· Assisted with nursing labs for juniors for both health assessment and nursing essentials for the 15 weeks.
· Held open lab for urinary catheterization and assisted 10 students with this skill.
· Videotaped three students at their request to help them identify their errors with urinary catheterization.
· Proctored several exams for the face-to-face classes.
· Witnessed several student remediation sessions by Dr. Burr in person.
· Witnessed several student advisement sessions by Dr. Burr in person and via telephone.
· Assisted senior students and their clinical preceptor during their clinical on a neurology unit for six clinical days.
· Assisted with online research by responding to the students in one group each week for six weeks.
· Graded six students’ postings for six weeks, a different set of students each week.
· Helped online students understand the difficult concepts with videos, examples, and personal comments.
· Graded regional write-ups for health assessment for two weeks.
· Wrote two online remediation’s with two students who were struggling with their writing skills and APA formatting.
· Actively participated in two simulation days at the Orlando simulation lab with the seniors from Cocoa campus.
· Conducted debriefing with several simulation sessions.
· Participated in check-offs for vitals signs, medication administration, and full body assessment.
· Observed post-conference for junior students community clinical with three different clinical instructors.
· Observed community clinical instructor making rounds to check on the students in her group.
· Loaded several documents to web courses.
· Wrote one bonus question that was used in an exam and several that were not used.
· Assisted Dr. Draves with loading her educational videos to YouTube.
· Graded a health assessment video that a group of students made in lieu of check-offs.
· Collaborated with Dr. Burr, Dr. Draves, and Dr. Jacqueline LaManna often with student issues.
